What is STP file?
The STP (STEP 3D CAD File) is a file extension typically used in three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) programs related to 3D. The STP, or Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data, was first introduced by ISO 10303-21 and provides users with the ability to share 3D objects. In addition to the STP (STEP 3D CAD File), the same ISO 10303-21 standard also includes file extensions such as .IGS, .IAM, and .XLTRT. [ ⏩ ] STP file extension
What is IV file?
The IV file extension is associated with the open source 3D platform Open Inventor, developed by Silicon Graphics Inc.(SGI). Open Inventor is a toolkit and API for creating 3D graphics applications. The IV file stores a scene graph, which is a data structure describing the 3D objects in an application as well as their transformations. This makes it possible for complex 3D models to be loaded and saved as a single file object. [ ⏩ ] IV file extension
Software, that you can use to convert
How to convert the file from STP to IV?
To successfully convert the STP file to IV, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.STP). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case IV (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than IV).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. STP to IV. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting STP files to IV files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension IV, while before this step we had the STP file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new IV file, or not.
