The IV file extension is associated with the open source 3D platform Open Inventor, developed by Silicon Graphics Inc.(SGI). Open Inventor is a toolkit and API for creating 3D graphics applications. The IV file stores a scene graph, which is a data structure describing the 3D objects in an application as well as their transformations. This makes it possible for complex 3D models to be loaded and saved as a single file object.
Features
The IV file supports multiple object types, including lines, textured shapes, curved surfaces and sophisticated shapes. It also supports vertex data, such as normals and vectors, which allows the definition of more precise shapes. The file includes support for indexed color maps and flood-filled polygons which allow for vivid 3D graphical effects. Open Inventor supports several image formats which are also supported in IV files such as < ext >TIF ext>, < ext >GIF ext>, < ext >BMP ext>, < ext >JPG ext>, and < ext >PNG ext>.
Related File Types?
In addition to the IV file, Open Inventor also uses the following types of files: IVZ(Open Inventor Archive File), IVT(SGI Open Inventor Template File), VIR(Open Inventor File), XIV(Open Inventor Metafile). These files can be opened using a number of applications including Blender, Autodesk Maya, Luxology SceneSmart, Adobe After Effects CC (2017).
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .IV) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .IV extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .IV file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .IV extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .IV extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .IV file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .IV file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .IV file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .IV file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .IV file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
