What is IV file?
The IV file extension is associated with the open source 3D platform Open Inventor, developed by Silicon Graphics Inc.(SGI). Open Inventor is a toolkit and API for creating 3D graphics applications. The IV file stores a scene graph, which is a data structure describing the 3D objects in an application as well as their transformations. This makes it possible for complex 3D models to be loaded and saved as a single file object. [ ⏩ ] IV file extension
What is VRML file?
The VRML file extension (also known as Virtual Reality Modeling Language files) is a type of 3D graphic designed for use in the Internet and other computer programs. VRML was created by the Silicon Graphics Corporation as a platform-independent language for describing 3-dimensional scenes and objects, and it is designed to create interactive models featuring animation and multimedia. VRML files are created in a 3D world by a software program such as Cortona VRML Client, Blender, or Maya. [ ⏩ ] VRML file extension
How to convert the file from IV to VRML?
To successfully convert the IV file to VRML, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.IV). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case VRML (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than VRML).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. IV to VRML. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting IV files to VRML files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension VRML, while before this step we had the IV file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new VRML file, or not.
