The 3GA file extension stands for the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Audio files, which are used for audio files that are encoded using the AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) format and stored in the 3GPP container. This particular audio file encoding and container combination was developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for streaming sound over 3G mobile networks. The 3GA format is based on the standard Format 4 audio file, where the audio data is split into 20 ms frames. This allows additional bits to be added to each frame, allowing a more accurate representation of sound than other formats.
