Doodle C64 Image Format | N/A | Raster Image Files |
DD (Doodle C64) is a .IMG file extension developed for Commodore 64. It contains data for drawings created by Doodle, a popular drawing program designed for the 8-bit Commodore home PCs. DD files store images in a basic bitmap format, consisting of 8-bit RGB color information with no compression or interlacing. The RGB color range is 0-255 and images often contain up to 16 colors. DD files can only be viewed or edited using Doodle or compatible programs.
Due to its limited size and lack of options, DD is considered an obsolete file format. It has been replaced by formats such as KF2, KF3, KF6, and .FPD that offer higher color resolution and more advanced features since they allow complete graphics to be stored at higher resolutions with greater color accuracy. Similar formats include .DIB, .IFF, .LBM, .PCX, and .TIFF.
Storing DD Files
DD files are usually stored on floppy disks. They contain the color information required to reconstruct the images onscreen, along with other data such as size, number of colors, and position. Compatible programs must be able to read the DD file header and then apply the image data to the canvas.
Compatibility With Other Programs
The Doodle C64 format is relatively outdated and likely to be replaced by more modern formats. As a result, DD files are not compatible with many graphics programs. Most modern graphics applications such as Adobe Photoshop and GIMP cannot open and edit DD file without specialized plug-ins or conversion software.
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
