The .TRACE (VMware ThinApp Trace Log File) file extension is a file used to log data related to application execution. It is used by VMware ThinApp software which enables applications to ‘aimlessly’ run on any computer without any changes running on the operating system. VMware ThinApp takes an ‘application snapshot’ which consists of the full set of files and registry entries needed to run the application. These files are then packaged into a single executable file which can be distributed as one unit. The .TRACE file logs application data during the process of application virtualization including errors, warnings and other statuses.
