CDM ( .CDM) is a file format most typically associated with NTI CD-Maker disk burning software. It is used by the software to store image files from data CD-ROMs, Audio CD, and DVD discs for both backup and reprocessing purposes. These disc images save an exact "snapshot" of the disc as it was when the image file was created, and can be used to create identical copies of the original disc.
Technical Details
The CDM file extension is an NTI proprietary, self-describing format that can compress and store either CD-ROM, DVD, or Audio CD data. Both the data formats stored within the CDM container as well as the entire contents of the CD itself will be preserved. Generally speaking, CDM files use header information a Read/Write buffer to keep an exact digital replica of the disc as it existed when the image was created.
Further details about a CDM file contain different sector and layer types: ISO9660 in CD-ROMs; Mode 1 and Mode 2 Form 1 for data discs; Audio tracks data; Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA); Video and ROM discs; 3D graphics in DVD-ROMs. It can also store other related metadata such as: as sector size, number of layers, maximum number of sectors, root directory block in sectors etc. The process of creating a CDM file can be initiated through the NTI CD Maker software interface itself.
Similar File Extensions
Other file extensions associated for similar image files include .IMA, .BIN, .ISO, .NRG, .CIF, .C2D, .MDF, and .IMG.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .CDM) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .CDM extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .CDM file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .CDM extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .CDM extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .CDM file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .CDM file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .CDM file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .CDM file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .CDM file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
