DiscJuggler Image Format | Padus | Disk Image Files |
The CDI file extension is used in DiscJuggler, a data-burning software used to create images of CD-ROMs. This type of file stores a disc image, which is an exact representation of the contents of the source disc in a single file. CDIs are the same as DCCs and C2D images, though CDI, DCC, and C2D are some of the most universally supported formats. The exact content of each CD image is stored in the CDI file.
Technical Details
The format was created by Padus Inc., a company which published DiscJuggler, and it is usually stored as a distribution medium for many kinds of software and media due to its speed and precision. It can also be used to duplicate discs, or keep a back-up of an original disc. In order to actually use the file, the user must first mount it as a virtual drive using either DiscJuggler, WinImage or Daemon Tools. The user then has access to all the files that were copied from the disc.
Similar File Extensions
Other related file extensions commonly used for disc images include .DMG, .ISO, and .CGI. These formats can often be seen stored in archives that contain many different kinds of files, including movies, music, and software applications.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .CDI) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .CDI extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .CDI file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .CDI extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .CDI extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .CDI file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .CDI file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .CDI file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .CDI file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .CDI file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
