Microsoft Exchange Badmail Format | Microsoft | Text Files |
The .BAD file extension is the Exchange Badmail File, widely used by Microsoft Exchange Server. This specific type of file is used to store formatted error messages sent to or from Microsoft's email-based messaging platform.
A.BAD file is created when a mailbox connection fails. Such files cannot be manually opened and users will receive an error message indicating that the mailbox generating the.BAD file is no longer available. As the message cannot be delivered, it is stored with the.BAD extension in the Badmail directory within the Queue folder in Exchange 127.0.0.1. Microsoft Exchange standard headers indicate a Badmail Filename and Badmail Time field that are appended to the badmail message which allow administrators to troubleshoot such problems as undelivered emails and mailbox errors.
Storing Exchange Messages with Collection of Similar Extensions
In addition to.BAD files, other Exchange file extensions are also commonly used depending on their services and functionalities, including: .EML, .MSG, .OST, .PST, .OAB, and .NSF. The.EML extension stores emails independently, allowing them to be moved outside of their client program, while.MSG is a common format for archiving messages and for exchanging data between users on different email clients. The.OST extension stands for Offline Storage Table which works like a cache, connecting users to their Exchange server without having to stay connected all the time. The.PST file extension stores emails and many other Outlook data elements in personal folders which user can create using the Outlook mail client. Finally, both the.OAB (Office Address Book) and the.NSF (Notes Storage Facility) respective extensions are used for storing contact information in a database.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .BAD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .BAD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .BAD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .BAD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .BAD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .BAD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .BAD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .BAD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .BAD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .BAD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
