Lotus Notes Database Format | IBM | Database Files |
NSF stands for .NSF, which is the database file format used in Lotus Notes, one of the most common enterprise messaging and collaboration software titles. NSF files are used to store information such as emails, contacts, to-do lists, scheduled events, and other information related to a business or personal life. These files also act as an index and storage area for any type of data that needs to be shared with multiple users. The database includes all normalized and denormalized forms, giving users flexibility when accessing remote databases or when integrating data from multiple sources.
Features of NSF Files
NSF files share many features with other database file formats such as those used in Microsoft Access, Interbase, and MySQL. Each NSF file includes a set of folders containing individual records that can be linked together. For example, a contacts folder may contain multiple records linking an individual’s name, contact details, and other associated information. Tables can also be created inside the NSF file, for easy access of linked records and improved data integrity and security. Creating views is also possible so users can quickly find their stored data.
Similar File Extensions
Similar file extensions include .NS2, .NS3, .NTF, .FTM, .IDX, and .PTY. Some of these share similarities with the NSF format, but are different in structure and capabilities.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .NSF) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .NSF extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .NSF file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .NSF extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .NSF extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .NSF file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .NSF file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .NSF file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .NSF file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .NSF file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
