The ODM file extension is associated with OverDrive Media. It is used to store an account user's data, such as rent a book/ebook, bookshelf, language settings, and lending estimate. Files in this format come protected with the proprietary Digital Rights Management (DRM) from OverDrive. Such files can be viewed on mobile devices like Apple’s iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, as well as desktop computers. The DRM prevents unauthorized users from accessing the content of an ODM file.
ODM File Structure
The ODM file is an XML format-based file that contains information of the media and audio content in different folders for audio segmentations. It also includes folder names and type of folders (e.g. pictures, apps). Apart from these two main aspects, an ODM file also has several other components which are related to the user experiences. These include options related to playlists, displays, workspaces and user interface settings such as navigation menus and fonts.
