MTF or Motorola Theme File is a proprietary file format created by Motorola Inc. for use with their mobile phones. It is used to store custom themes, logos, icons, wallpaper and various other settings associated with the design of the phone's user interface. MTF also stores music and video files embedded in the theme package.
Overview
The structure of MTF files contains four nested folders - THMBNLS, FILEIMG, DATA and FILELIST. The THMBNLS folder contains series of bitmaps used for thumbnail presentation of the theme. The FILEIMG folder holds pictures that are included to the theme package while the DATA folder contains text strings, graphics and sounds files. The FILELIST consists information about sizes, names and checksums for all enclosed files within the theme package. The file format is mainly supported by Motorola V-series and a1200e mobile phones.

Other related file formats are MEF ( .mef), SKN ( .skn) and DPS ( .dps) which often used for holding same type of information in certain mobile phone models.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .MTF) with the new application.
