The SKN (Symbian OS Skin File) file extension is used by the Symbian OS operating system for storing skin definition files. A SKN file is created by the device manufacturer to define the look of an application on the user interface. It contains information such as color definitions and font styles, and also defines the size, visibility, and location of the visual elements. SKN files are mainly used by the UIQ 3.1 smartphone platform to define custom-made themes for the device. Themes contain resources such as images, fonts icons, sounds, color themes, start menus, and many other configurations. These resources are stored in a single folder named SkinFamily_id_v folder where "_id" represents a unique ID for each skin family and "v" stands for its version number.
