The INO file extension is associated with the Inno Setup, a tool used for creating Windows installations. Inno Setup creates an EXE file that can then be used to install a program on any Windows PC. The INO file contains scripts and settings necessary for creating an executable installation package. This includes parameters for file locations, registry entries, shortcut/icon creation, and so on. When an EXE is created from an INO file, the original source code is compressed into a compressed version before being added to the installation package.
Using Inno Setup
Inno Setup also allows developers to create a single installer with multiple components. This provides users with the ability to install only part of the software package if needed. With Inno Setup, the entire source code of the software is available for manual editing within the INO file. By default, Inno Setup will generate an installation package in 32-bit format, although users can easily change this to create a 64-bit installation package. Similarly, other options relating to language used by Inno Setup, dependencies, and other preferences can be changed.
Other File Extension Associations
INO files may also be associated with Kinect Studio, a 2D/3D motion capture tool; as well as Ren’Py Visual Novel Engine which was designed to create interactive narrative stories. Other file extensions commonly associated with similar tools are INX, ISS, and ISL.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .INO) with the new application.
