Windows Installation Script Format | N/A | Settings Files |
The INF (Setup Information File) file extension is a text file format used for storing data for Microsoft Windows installations. This type of file can contain configuration settings for programs or devices, like printer, keyboard and mice drivers, software installation settings and access control information. The file is usually a plain-text document containing various line-oriented commands with sections in brackets. When the file is opened in an editor, it is usually clear what each line does because of the syntax. INF files are commonly associated with Executable files (EXE), device drivers ( .SYS) and dynamic link libraries ( .DLL). Other extensions associated with this file are .INI, .REG, .SCR, .HLP and .CNT.
Creation and Use
Inf files are usually created by an automated process during the setup of software installation and can list the layout of specified folders as well as installation details like the version number and type of license. This type of document also contains information for any other programs that may need to be pre-installed before the program itself is successfully installed. In addition, INF files can also determine what components are critical to initializing a successful install. These documents can be used to deploy system configurations across multiple machines quickly without having to set up the same settings manually.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .INF) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .INF extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .INF file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .INF extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .INF extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .INF file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .INF file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .INF file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .INF file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .INF file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
