The .IIQ file extension identifies an proprietary RAW image file format developed by Phase One, a Danish digital camera manufacturer. The primary purpose of the IIQ file format is to store high-resolution image data, uncompressed and in its original form, directly from the digital camera sensor. This enables subsequent editing and color correction of the captured images with no loss of image quality, thereby allowing photographers to achieve the highest possible quality for their images.
File Format and Compression
The IIQ format uses 16 bits of color depth per RGB channel to ensure accurate color representation and up to 14 stops of dynamic range. To further reduce the size of the files generated by the camera, a lossless data compression algorithm is also employed. The compressed IIQ images are typically about 1/3 of the size of the equivalent TIFF files. Images saved in this format can also be stored in a variety of color space profiles, including sRGB, Adobe RGB and others.
