The GPD file extension is associated with the Generic Printer Description.
Generic Printer Description, or GPD, files are similar to Microsoft Windows *.INF files, in that they contain setup information. This information is related to printers, and is used by certain image editing software as a means of connecting an image to a printer. It is mainly used as an alternative way to set the configuration of a printer when Windows does not have any existing printer driver for it. Generally, GPD files are stored in a subdirectory where an application can access it located on the hard drive.
How GPD Files Work
Using Generic Printer Description with applications allows printers, and other devices, to interface with each other from multiple platforms. This means that the user is then able to send commands to their device using their standard operating system as the interface. It simplifies matters by guaranteeing that any user with any supported operating system can use the same language used with the device.
