The DVG .DVG file extension is for a vector graphic format developed by CorelDRAW. Its primary purpose is to store vector-based graphical designs, which are created using the aforementioned software. These files are most commonly used for logos, images with multiple objects, illustrations and icons.
A DVG file contains different components such as texts, bitmaps, objects, layers, nodes and paths. Additionally, the vector data can be stored as both curves or as nodes connected by straight and curved lines - allowing users to control level of detail by selecting the type of path to export. The DVG files are compressed and stored in a binary file format, thus enabling them to be unusually small without losing any detail. Also, since this is a Corel proprietary format, it includes additional information such as fills, blends and shadows that can’t be found in standard formats such as EPS or PDF.
Similar File Extensions
Besides DVG files, CorelDraw also supports files with other extensions like .CDR, .CMX, .CDT and .DES.
Compatibility
The DVG file format is not supported by most non-Corel applications. To open these files outside of CorelDraw an encoder/decoder (Codec) has to be used such as the one included with the Global Graphics GGraph library. This allows these files to be opened on other platforms such as Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand without much difficulty.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DVG) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DVG extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DVG file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DVG extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DVG extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DVG file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DVG file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DVG file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DVG file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DVG file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
