A DSD (AutoCAD DWG Set Description) file is a data file used with Autodesk AutoCAD, a popular computer-aided design and drafting software. It provides the necessary information for properly displaying objects in a drawing set within the program. DSD files are created by using the AutoCAD SETDWG command, which enables users to manipulate default system settings related to two-dimensional drawings.
DSD files contain information about the active drawing units, user prefixes, text spacings and styles, coordinate systems, rotation angles, among many other settings related to drawing cadastres. As such, the file extension is loaded in memory each time a drawing is opened in order to correctly display objects within the program. This means that the same DSD file cannot be used with older versions of AutoCAD. Similarly, although similar configuration information can be stored in other CAD-related file types like DXF, DWG, and DWS, those files are not compatible with DSD files.
