ZSNES Cheat Code Format | N/A | Game Files |
The CHT (SNES Cheat File) file extension is used to save cheat codes for Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) console games. This file type is associated specifically with the SNES emulator Snes9x, and it is an editable plain text file. It is comprised of game-specific cheat codes and sometimes other game data, such as pointers or addresses. Additionally, the CHT file may contain information about event flags, locations, and configuration settings.
File Structure
Like many plain text files, each line of a CHT file contains one command with its parameters, each sectioned by semicolon separators. The command values are numerical by default, but the SNES9x emulator consoles it to hexadecimal notation for improved clarity. To make the changes work in the game, it requires two additional commands; a 'create' command for starting the active memory search followed by an 'apply' command to write the new memory values into the game code using code patches. These new codes can be easily shared online due to its simple, plain-text nature.
Similar File Extensions
CHT files are related to some other cheat code formats such as .GG, .PPF, and .PAR. It also has some correlation with other text-based console gaming databases such as .DAT, .CFG, and .INI.
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .CHT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .CHT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .CHT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .CHT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .CHT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .CHT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .CHT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .CHT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .CHT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .CHT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
