The ART file extension is associated with Bernina Artista, a powerful computer-aided embroidery system from BERNINA Development Corporation. These files contain embroidery designs and related data which can be read by the BERNINA Artista embroidery Design System software. It can also be used to read many other popular embroidery formats including .PES, .JEF, and .HUS.
The ART file type includes information such as line and stitch types, thread colors, fabric type and desired stitch density. These files are limited to approximately 65,000 stitches in each individual design file. Designs stored as ART files are too large to upload to the BERNINA webshop or a USB stick, however can be embroidered on the matching BERNINA Artista machine. Such files are usually comprised of several colorways and three basic layers: sew, stop, and trim.
ART File Versions
The ART file has 7 distinct versions: Artista 150 (.art), 200 (.art), Artista 750/770/785QE (.arx), 830 (.art), 900 (.art), Aurifil/metallic (.amf) and 1000 & 790QE (.blf). It is important to note that the ART extensions are not interchangeable directly; each version should be open or saved in the corresponding Bernina system. Additionally, some other file types can be converted into ART using dedicated software such as OESD Art Conversion Software, for instance.PCS,.TAP,.DSB or.DST.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .ART) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .ART extension.

Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .ART file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .ART extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .ART extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .ART file.
