What is IMG file?
The IMG (Macintosh Disk Image) .IMG file extension is a virtual disk image used to hold computer data. Created using the HFSExplorer utility, an IMG file contains information from a physical hard drive or another type of storage device and is stored in a non-OS-specific disk image format. With the IMG format, the data stored in an image is exactly the same as what is stored on the source drive. [ ⏩ ] IMG file extension
What is UDF file?
The UDF (UDF) file extension is a format developed and maintained by the Optical Storage Technology Association. It is most commonly associated with CDs and DVDs, though it also can be used to store data on other storage mediums as well. UDF is also an acronym for ‘Universal Disk Format’ which summarizes the capacity and flexibility of this file type. It is widely used across many platforms and operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux. [ ⏩ ] UDF file extension
How to convert the file from IMG to UDF?
To successfully convert the IMG file to UDF, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.IMG). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case UDF (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than UDF).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. IMG to UDF. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting IMG files to UDF files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension UDF, while before this step we had the IMG file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new UDF file, or not.
