What is BVH file?
The BVH (Biovision Hierarchy .BVH) file extension is a digital character animation file format developed by Biovision, Inc. for motion capturing data saved in the Biological Motion Hierarchy format. BVH was initially used by Life Forms software for motion-capturing data generated by Kinect and other motion capture hardware. The hierarchical structure of the BVH files allows the user to visualize and modify extracted motion capture data. [ ⏩ ] BVH file extension
What is CSM file?
The CSM file extension is used for the .CSM Character Studio Marker File. CSM files are created in 3ds Max, a 3D modelling and animation software from Autodesk. CSM files contain marker information which is used for animation, simulations, games, and special effects in renderings. The markers contain information such as the positions and rotations of specific points on an object. [ ⏩ ] CSM file extension
How to convert the file from BVH to CSM?
To successfully convert the BVH file to CSM, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.BVH). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case CSM (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than CSM).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. BVH to CSM. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting BVH files to CSM files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension CSM, while before this step we had the BVH file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new CSM file, or not.
