What is AIF file?
The AIF (Audio Interchange File Format) sound file extension is one of the oldest and still used audio file formats, originating in 1988 with Apple's Mac OS 7. Today, the AIF file format is supported by many programs for both encoding and decoding audio such as Adobe Audition, iTunes, AIMP, Windows Media Player, and QuickTime. AIF files enable the transmission of audio between platforms and may include sample-rate, bit-depth, sound quality information, and certain embedded data chunks. [ ⏩ ] AIF file extension
What is FLAC file?
The .FLAC file extension is used for a compressed audio file format called Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC). Developed by Xiph.org, the FLAC format is one of several lossless audio formats that offer the same level of encoding quality as compared to alternative PCM formats, such as WAV and AIFF, but at a smaller compressed size. This format is commonly used for download and streaming services, as well as playback on certain digital audio players. [ ⏩ ] FLAC file extension

How to convert the file from AIF to FLAC?
To successfully convert the AIF file to FLAC, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.AIF). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case FLAC (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than FLAC).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. AIF to FLAC. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting AIF files to FLAC files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension FLAC, while before this step we had the AIF file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new FLAC file, or not.
