The ZPL file extension is the file format used by Zune, a digital media player software developed by Microsoft. It's mainly used to store the characteristics of playlists created with the application, such as the list of songs included in a particular sequence, playback order, album art and other custom details. By default, Zune Playlist files are stored as plain text files that follows the Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard.
