Microsoft Excel 97 To 2003 Workbook Template Format | Microsoft | Data Files |
The XLT file extension is used to denote Excel Template files, which are documents produced with the popular Microsoft Excel program. These files contain data arranged in a table format, along with formatting options and other information for customizing the documents. The contents of an Excel Template can include values, formulas, text strings, charts, and other features commonly associated with spreadsheets. The primary difference between these Excel Template files and standard XLS, XLSX or XLSM types is that they are intended to be used as the foundation for similar documents.
Template Usage
When creating an XLT template file, users can specify custom formatting options and other data that will be inserted into each instance of the document, such as logos, predetermined text strings or particular color schemes. Once set up, this template file can then be used by other people to create their own spreadsheets based on the template. By making use of an Excel Template, users can eliminate the need for starting from a blank slate when creating a new spreadsheet.
File Conversion
While XLT are not customizable by the typical user in any manner, those who wish to edit the contents of this type of spreadsheet can first convert it to a standard version of Excel by opening the file with that application. This should enable the user to make adjustments and additions as needed before saving it to XLS, XLSX, or another compatible format.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .XLT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .XLT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .XLT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .XLT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .XLT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .XLT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .XLT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .XLT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .XLT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .XLT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
