The .webloc file type is used by Mac OS X to store web link shortcut. It consists of a resource fork containing a URL string and an Internet Location File (ILF) locator which stores the URL in the data fork. This shortcut allows the user to open the specific web page or location as if they had typed the URL into their web browser. .webloc files are traditionally associated with Apple's own web browser, Safari, but many other browsers also support the use of such shortcuts. When opened, a browser will recognize this XML document and use it to open the specified URL.
