File extension .VMD
The VMD .RAW file extension is used by the Covox RAW Sample software to store digital audio. It is a type of waveform audio file which contains raw data from a sound card or sampling hardware device. The output format is typically 8-bit low-resolution mono sample, so it should not be confused with other more commonly used audio formats like WAV or AIFF.
Data Format and Technical Specifications
VMD .RAW files are uncompressed, raw data files that use a binary encoding system to encode their values. Each value is coded as an 8-bit unsigned integer and the raw audio data is arranged in two's complement where each sample's magnitude is calculated on the basis of the binary code value. The sampling rate of the file is usually either 8 KHz or 11 KHz, though lower and higher rates can be used depending on the application. Each sample is stored in little endian order and the size of each frame is 256 bytes.
Similar File Extensions
The VMD .RAW file format is often confused with other audio file types like WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and OGG. In addition, the VMD format also has many similar or related file extensions such as RAWX, RAX, IMA4, SNDV, and MP3.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .VMD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .VMD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .VMD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .VMD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .VMD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .VMD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .VMD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .VMD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .VMD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .VMD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
