VirtualDrive CD Image Format | H+H | Disk Image Files |
The .VCD file extension is used to store data on a Virtual CD (VCD) image file. VCDs are used in AUTHO, WinISO, and PowerISO as a way to store data in a single file, while preserving the formatting and layout of a traditional CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Such files can be opened and read by many programs, allowing for CD-ROM data to be easily copied, shared, or viewed without having physical media.
The VCD file is a single file that contains the same data as you would expect from an Optical Disc, such as audio tracks or video clips; any other type of data that can be stored onto an Optical Disc can generally also be stored in a VCD file. Additionally, VCD files allow for compression of the files contained within them; this allows more data to be stored in one file than if it were on an Optical Disc. Many other formats are similar to VCDs, including BIN/.CUE, MDF/.MDS, and .NRG.
Comparing Virtual CDs to ISO Images
Virtual CDs, though similar to ISO images, offer some advantages over them. For one, VCDs offer faster saving times since large amounts of often-used data can be compressed into one file that is much smaller than an ISO image. Since VCDs are saved with the formatting and directories already intact, they do not need to undergo any lengthy write processes; compared to ISO images which must be written as indivdual files with each of their separate directory information.
Openning VCD files
VCD files are supported by various programs like AUTHO, WinISO, PowerISO, and many media players which allow for VCDfiles to be opened and read. Additionally, mounting virtual drives can help open and access the content stored within VCDs on Windows or OS X operating systems, depending on the type of mounting program being used.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .VCD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .VCD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .VCD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .VCD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .VCD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .VCD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .VCD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .VCD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .VCD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .VCD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
