PSpice Symbols Library Format | Cadence Design Systems, Inc | Misc Files |
The SLB file extension stands for Schematic Library File. It is an ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) text file that contains a record of all the Part Symbols used with PSpice, a program used to simulate and analyze electrical circuits. The file is used to store, catalog, and organize electrical components as a library of schematic symbols.
File Structure
SLB files contain properties of both schematic symbols and footprints. These fields are divided into sections such as the symbol pin section, symbol body section, and symbol attributes section. Each pin has information on its size, X-Y coordinates, angle, and descriptor. This descriptor is a list of what type of Pin it is such as Power Pin or Input/Output Pin. The symbol body section contains the shapes for each component type. The shape format is made up of lines, polylines, circles, and arcs utilizing specific coordinates. The attributes for components are stored in the 'Symbol Attributes' section in the SLB file. These attributes include Texts such as Part numbers and Descriptions as well as Hyperlinks which point to associated webpages and documents related to the parts included in the library.
Associations
The SLB file format is associated with PSpice, part of ORCAD family of software created by Cadence Design System Inc. Other file extensions related to this type of software include OLB, PIS, P32, NET, and CDL.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SLB) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SLB extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SLB file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SLB extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SLB extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SLB file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SLB file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SLB file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SLB file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SLB file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
