StuffIt Archive Format | Smith Micro | Compressed Files |
The SITX *.sitx is an archive file format developed by Allway Sync (formerly known as Smith Micro Software) and is most commonly used to compress data with StuffIt X applications. The compressed data is stored in a single SITX file, making it convenient for users to share files over email or the internet.
The files, when uncompressed, are decompressed using the StuffIt X engine. This engine is designed to produce a compact and lossless decompression. It can also perform lossy-compression with lower-resolution format for image files.Besides compressing files, SITX can also split the archived data into multiple parts. This allows easier transfer of large files over the internet or removable media such as CDs.
Encryption level
The encryption level of SITX archive greatly depends on which StuffIt X application was used to create the archive. Some of the StuffIt X products offer advanced encryption capabilities to keep confidential information secure. SITX archives support up to 448-bit Blowfish encryption as well as other robust encryption methods like Triple-DES. Additionally, the user can store digital signatures in the archive to authenticate the sender.
Compatibility with other file types
SITX can store data from various formats including Mac and Windows platforms. The most popular formats are JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PDF, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents, Zip archives and HTML web pages. Besides these common file types, StuffIt X supports several less popular file types like QuickTime movies and text/data files in a variety of programming languages. As an alternative of SITX archive, users may also consider other archives like *.rar, *.zip, *.7z, .tar, etc.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SITX) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SITX extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SITX file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SITX extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SITX extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SITX file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SITX file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SITX file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SITX file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SITX file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
