The S19 file extension is associated with Motorola S19 record files. It is a type of binary data file used in embedded systems programming to store the machine-readable assembly code from which an application can be loaded and executed on a microcontroller. S19 files are most commonly used with the Motorola S-Record, which is the primary motorola assembly format.
Storing Assembly Records
Motorola S19 records are comprised of multiple blocks of assembly source code in the form of single line, fixed-length ASCII records that contain information about specific program elements such as instructions, labels, and constants. Each record contains a two-character data type identifier, followed by address and data fields, and terminated with a capital letter ‘S’ followed by one byte checksum. The record can be as short as 14 bytes or up to 255 bytes long depending on how much data it includes. Additionally, S19 files can contain other records such as an information header field which contains data such as the description, version number and date when the file was created, the start address, the length of the executable code, and other settings specific to embedded applications.
