The MOT file extension is used for LightWave's Motion files by NewTek, Inc. Motion (.mot) files store keyframe animation, of motion calculated by LightWave’s graph editor. The motion information is stored in a hierarchical structure which contains names and settings for the individual objects and their properties. Motion files can be loaded directly into the scene as animation data to objects, cameras, or lights, or as path trajectories for Deform Movements.
Technical Details
Motion files are single binary files that contain the keyframes from the motion. To play 7D video frames, up to 50 frames on each track keyframes of animation. In addition to 3D positioning information, the MOT file format also includes channel or parameter information, such as color, visibility, intensity and other attributes of the items being animated. Furthermore, it also stores envelope information for each track. Motion files use a linked list format and some functions are shared across platforms; this makes it suitable for cross-platform workflows between Mac and PC.
