MDD is a filename extension for Point Oven Deformation Data Files. MDD files are created by Point Oven, an animation deformation plugin by Exosphase for 3ds Max. The file contains animation curves and deformation information exported from Point Oven. It can store information about morphing, bend/taper effects, animated objects or the position of bones in a skeletal-rigging system. This file is used to apply the same animation and object changes across multiple objects.
Associated File Types
Files with the.MDD extension are associated with a few other file types including .XSI, .POS, and .DIR, which all hold different types of data that can be used in Point Oven or 3ds Max. MDD files contain deformation information, while.XSI files contain rigid body simulation data,.POS files contain position or auto-key frames, and.DIR files are preferences presets for Point Oven.
Usage
MDD files are used to apply an object's animation, deformations, and positioning across multiple frames. After designing a desired effect in 3ds Max with the Point Oven plugin, users may export their project as an.MDD file, which can then be applied to any compatible program or 3D animated software such as Autodesk Maya.?In addition to.MDD files, other related formats such as .PTC, .PTM, and .PTA may also be used in a similar manner.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .MDD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .MDD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .MDD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .MDD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .MDD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .MDD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .MDD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .MDD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .MDD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .MDD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
