The RELOC file extension is used by the Windows operating system to create relocation section files. A relocation section file ( RELOC) is a data file which contains information about the location of a program's executable code within memory. This information is used to ensure that the program can be loaded correctly in the system memory and so that the program can find all the resources it needs in order to be able to execute.
Relocation section ( RELOC) files are typically associated with Windows Portable Executable ( .exe) files, as these contain executable code which requires relocation. They may also be associated with Dynamic Link Library ( .dll) and system files ( .sys) in certain cases. RELOC files are typically created by the Windows operating system, and they are not usually manually edited or manipulated by an end user.
Purpose of Relocation Section Files
RELOC files serve an important purpose when it comes to loading and executing programs on a Windows PC. This type of file prevents memory conflict issues between applications when multiple programs need to be loaded into memory at the same time. For example, if two programs were both trying to use the same memory address space then only one program would be able to load properly. By using a relocation section file, each program can specify which part of memory will be used, thus minimizing any conflicts.
Similar File Extensions
The RELOC file extension is related to other Windows EXE file extensions such as .exe, .dll, .sys, as well as Windows library file types like .obj, .lib, and .icf. These various file extensions all serve different functions for the Windows operating system and allowing it to run smoothly.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .RELOC) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .RELOC extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .RELOC file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .RELOC extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .RELOC extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .RELOC file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .RELOC file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .RELOC file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .RELOC file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .RELOC file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
