A PRM file is a compiled file created in Real Software's REALbasic .rb or rbbas development environments. It contains compiled program code in a binary form, which functions similarly to executable files .exe and .dll. This code is linked from multiple source files, allowing developers to debug working programs more easily. PRM files differ from BAS files, which contain uncompiled code.
Compiling Software Products
During the software development process, source code is written in the development environment in terms of distinct programming elements, such as classes, functions, and control structures. When the code works correctly, the developer can compile it into an executable file that will run independently on their operating system. Similarly, all the classes in a REALbasic project must be compiled into a single PRM file before it can be made ready for release. This means that the source code is turned into object code that can be executed by the computer's processor.
Using PRM Files with Your Operating System
In order to run a program created with REALbasic, the PRM file must be placed in the same directory as other associated resource files such as images and menus. Alternatively, a separate installation utility can be used to place the PRM file and other necessary files into their correct locations. On Mac OS-based systems such as Mac OS X, all resources associated with an application can be bundled as a single application package..app. For Windows-based systems, an installer can package each resource in separate modules which are combined at run time.
Similar File Extensions
PRM files may be related to similar file extensions including .rbx, mbrb, and .bas.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .PRM) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .PRM extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .PRM file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .PRM extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .PRM extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .PRM file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .PRM file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .PRM file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .PRM file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .PRM file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
