The PFM (Printer Font Metrics) .PFM file extension is a text based font data file which contains vital information about a font's metric and character / glyph widths, which enables printers to properly render the characters for the given font. The file is generated by a font editor, and contains information such as the name, the version, the font type, zero based values of character ascent, descent and external leading measurements - relative to a baseline equal to zero, and nonzero values for internal leading metrics between characters, etc.
Usage
The PFM file is generally used along with other font files like .PFB, .TTF, and .OTF. Adobe Type Manager (ATM), and other applications use the PFM file together with other font files in order to generate bitmap images of font symbols. It also serves as an initializing point for setting up default parameters for printer output. PFM files are mostly used with Windows operating systems.
