MHT ( .mht) web archive files are a type of file used to store web page content in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) format. The files are often produced by Microsoft Internet Explorer as an alternative to saving the page as a set of interlinked HTML, JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) documents. Browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome also have the capacity to save webpages as MHT web archives. The files are compressed and can contain media files, otherwise known as binary data, such as audio, images, and videos, all in one file extension.
Uses of MHT Files
MHT web archives can be used in the same way as HTML documents. The files can be made to launch animation and interactive activities on a webpage using hyperlinks for navigation through a website. These websites can then be printed out, shared online, or emailed. For example, MHT files can be used for archiving internet materials, notifying websites of updates that have been made offline, or compiling scanned documents for online sharing.
