Microsoft Access Table Shortcut Format | Microsoft | Data Files |
The MAT file extension is used by Microsoft Access. This proprietary table shortcut file contains a small reference to a table in an Access database. A MAT file is used by Access to display the tables stored in the database. The MAT file actually links to a specific type of an Access file format, known as an Access table, which can be viewed and edited using Access.
The MAT is primarily used for internal purposes and is not meant to be opened or edited using other software applications. However, it's possible for other programs, like text editors and Microsoft Excel, to partially open the MAT file but the data will be mostly unreadable. It's also not recommended to manually change or edit any MAT files as this could cause corruption or data loss.
Similar File Extensions
Other similar file extensions are ADP, MDB, ACCDB, and MDW, all of which are associated with Microsoft Access. The ADP and MDB are both database files that can be used to open, view, and edit various kinds of database information including tables, forms, and queries. The ACCDB file is a modern version of the MDB format, developed by Microsoft as an upgrade from earlier versions of Access. The MDW is an Access WorkGroup Information file that contains security roles related information for a workgroup.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .MAT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .MAT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .MAT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .MAT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .MAT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .MAT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .MAT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .MAT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .MAT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .MAT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
