Microsoft Streets & Trips Trip Format | Microsoft | GIS Files |
The EST file extension is associated with Streets & Trips software, developed by the Microsoft Corporation. It is a professional trip-planning platform which helps users determine routes between two geographical points and create custom itineraries with ease. EST files store data such as points of interest, locations, routes, maps, geographical information and other trip-related information. They may contain any combination of the following elements within the Streets & Trips application: travel days, waypoints, map notes, stops, pins, map images, and route information.
EST files can be created in the Windows version of the Streets & Trips program though they are not interchangeable with files of other extensions created in Mac versions of Streets & Trips. Other similar file extensions used in the same application are .TRP, .KML, .OV2, and .MAP. These files can only be opened in the corresponding Microsoft programs.
File Compatibility
EST files require specialized programs for proper access. Any standard text editor will not support them and trying to open one will likely end in an error message. Microsoft's Streets & Trips, as well as its more advanced version - AutoRoute, are the compatible applications; they are both digital mapping tools with a wide variety of features. Moreover, EST files can be converted to other formats such as.KML or.GPX (used in GPS devices) using an appropriate software.
Opening EST Files in Windows
ESTA files can be opened in Windows 10 using either Streets & Trips, or auto-updating online web app versions of the program. The user should first launch one of these programs and then select the File tab. Next, click Open and navigate to where the file is stored, selecting it afterwards. Alternatively, using double-clicking is another viable option to open EST files.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .EST) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .EST extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .EST file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .EST extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .EST extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .EST file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .EST file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .EST file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .EST file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .EST file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
