The DGT (DST Thumbnail File) file extension is a type of image file used to store thumbnail images on a computer system. The file format was initially developed by MicroMark, but is now available through common graphic-editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop. The DGT format is commonly stored in the .DST folder and holds a smaller image version within the larger image file.
A thumbnail image is a small representation of an original photograph or graphic, which gives users an idea of what the larger file contains without needing to open it. DGT files usually hold a small portion of an image, but they may contain the whole thumbnail image if the overall picture was not too large. They can also store text information related to the larger image file, such as client details or captions associated with photographs.
File Properties
The DGT format is based on low-resolution bitmap images with the .dgt extension, allowing them to be modified and resized with basic editing tools. The files are generally stored in 8-bit indexed color mode, containing up to 24-bit RGB colors, although other color formats are available depending on the application and software used to open them. Images stored in this form typically have a resolution of 72 dpi.
Other common file extensions that work with DGT files are .BMP, .TIFF, .JPG, and .PNG. While some formats like TIFF may not be supported in all graphic-editing software, many will allow them to be opened and used for viewing and associated with larger image files.

Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DGT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DGT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DGT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DGT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DGT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DGT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DGT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DGT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DGT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DGT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
