The DDB file extension is used by the Digidesign Pro Tools digital audio workstation. It is a proprietary storage format and contains data regarding the audio hardware settings or metadata designation. The DDB format is associated with the .ptf, .paf and .ptx file formats, and usually created by the software.
Contents and File Structure
A DDB file commonly comprises of: hardware device characteristics - such as cable connections, specific settings of amplifiers, sound effects, filters, mic placement and other relevant audio configuration information; and certain metadata information - including length and type of session; location of audio files; names of tracks; markers based on timecode location, BPM value, and other similar components that can be used to directly edit sound. This data is structured in small chunks, each containing a small portion of the total audio information. When a file is loaded into Digidesign Pro Tools, these chunks are read as necessary and can be put together to assemble the appropriate audio settings.
File Compatibility
A DDB file is not compatible with any other application apart from specific versions of Pro Tools like Pro Tool 9 or earlier versions. Other alternatives include ARD (Audio Region Description) files, PTX (Real-Time Audio Suite Plug-in Data) files, PTF (Pro Tools Session File) files through which one can save their project settings in the same way as one would with a DDB file.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DDB) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DDB extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DDB file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DDB extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DDB extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DDB file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DDB file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DDB file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DDB file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DDB file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
