Adobe ColdFusion Template Format | Adobe Systems | Web Files |
The DBM (ColdFusion Server) file extension is used for a server resource file created by Adobe ColdFusion, an application server used for creating dynamic web pages. This file format stores server variables, such as cookies and queries, used by the application server. They are mainly called “database files” as they are metadata about the data in the database. The files may contain queries, stored procedures, triggers, forms, or griddata.
Structure
The DBM file format is an open-source proprotocol that supports communicating multiple data types. It has a text-based structure that is opened in a basic text editor such as Notepad. The DBM files are saved with the ‘.dbm’ extension and usually reside in the ‘/cf_root/wwwroot’ subdirectory of the Adobe ColdFusion program directory. They are also used to store applications or configurations for the ColdFusion program.
The DBM files are related to the following file formats: .CFM, .CFC, ORM, .FCG, and .CDX. These types of files represent the more common functions and features related to ColdFusion. For example, .CFM represents ColdFusion Markup scripting language which can be used to build dynamic data-driven websites. Other similar formats include: .CFC which is a CFC scripting language file type and used in ColdFusion for constructing database services; and ORM, which is a ColdFusion ORM file, used to save Object-Relational Mapping information.
A list of similar file formats are:
- .CFM
- ColdFusion Markup Language file.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DBM) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DBM extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DBM file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DBM extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DBM extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DBM file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DBM file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DBM file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DBM file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DBM file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
