A .CKD file is a CADKEY Design file used by CADKEY software. It stores the complete design of a model or drawing created for a specific engineering project. The.CKD extension contains a drawing, 2D sketches, 3D models, images, meta-objects, annotations, and other associated data for the project.
Components
The major components of a.CKD file are: layers, grids, dimensions, views, symbols, attributes, ellipses, annotations, text boxes, polylines, rulers, parabolas, splines curves, center marks and hatch lines. All data is stored in a binary format. However some header information including the pathname is stored in plain-text.
Associated File Types
A typical.CKD file is associated with several other CADKEY file types - mainly KCM, .SBR, .KWD, .LIB, and .MOD files. The.KCM and.MOD files are used to store meta-objects (e.g., surveyor's points) and 3D model objects respectively; the.SBR file stores symbols and attributes; the.KWD file stores workspace layouts and configurations; whereas the.LIB files store 3D parts libraries.
Software
The proprietary CADKEY software has several versions available for Windows users - CADKEY CorpBoard 3.1 to CADKEY Release 20. Standard edition is intended for engineers and designers in electrical/electronics fields while Pro Platinum version offers additional features for mechanical/engineering professionals. Despite updates from publishers such as Kubotek USA Inc., the.CKD it has not been updated since the release of version 20.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .CKD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .CKD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .CKD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .CKD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .CKD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .CKD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .CKD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .CKD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .CKD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .CKD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
