The CINE file extension is commonly associated with the Photron brand of digital medium-format cameras and recording system. The CINE file format, developed by Photron for their own hardware, provides an efficient way to store and edit digital video content. It provides bit-perfect data conversion, with no image degradation or data loss.
The CINE files are encoded in 8bit raw bayer pattern (binning) and are commonly used for recording with video industry-standard formats such as HDTV (1080i). The files can also be edited or manipulated in other programs such as Photoshop or After Effects. It is also possible to export the content using programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer.
CINE File Format Overview
The CINE recording system features a native resolution of 2048x2048, a minimum bit rate of 72fps, and 10 bit color accuracy. The files are stored in a lossless format, preventing any degradation of the data during editing or playback. Additionally, playback and rendering performance is improved by leveraging modern, proprietary compression algorithms.
Similar file formats include FFV1, MOV, IBC, and MXF. Capturing high-quality video with all the advantages of shared high-bandwidth digital conversation requires the CINE file format.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .CINE) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .CINE extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .CINE file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .CINE extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .CINE extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .CINE file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .CINE file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .CINE file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .CINE file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .CINE file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
