MegaPaint Picture Image Format | N/A | Raster Image Files |
The .BLD (MegaPaint Picture Image) file extension is a type of bitmap image commonly associated with MegaPaint, a DOS-based bitmap graphics editor from Autodesk in the 1980s. The file format is an 8-bit Windows device-independent bitmap (DIB) and stores bitmap images in a proprietary format developed by Autodesk.
Binary Large Datasets (BLDs) have been replaced by the newer BMP, GIF, PNG, JPG and other more common image formats over time; however, .BLD files are still used today for archival purposes and compatibility with software created before the widespread use of these more common formats.
File Structure
The basic structure of a .BLD file allows the program that created it to save any type of graphic attribute including line thickness, fill color, patterns, text or images. It stores an array of bytes within its file structure along with information about the total picture size and the number of Planes. BLDs also contain information about color resolution in terms of bits per pixel, allowing it to be used for black & white and grayscale images as well as 8-bit, 16-bit and 24-bit color images..BLD files are made up of blocks of 256 characters denoting maximum image sizes of 256x256 pixels. Therefore, they can only be used for low resolution output devices.
Similar File Extensions
Files that are similar to .BLD extensions include .BGI, .XMC, .GIF, .JBG and .JPG.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .BLD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .BLD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .BLD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .BLD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .BLD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .BLD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .BLD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .BLD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .BLD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .BLD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
