The BIMX ( .BIMX) file format is a native file format created by ArchiCAD, a 3D CAD modeling program. It saves all the 3D model, project details, views and associated documents in an integrated package that can then be sent to other users or opened by other 3D programs. This format was introduced in ArchiCAD 13 as part of the building information modeling platform.
A BIMX file typically uses different subformats to store different aspects of the file. For example, an ArchiCAD .PLN file is used for storing geometry information of the model, a MUMA file stores annotation data associated with the model, and a BFMK file contains all the linked documents searched in relation to the model. Additionally, two versions of the BIMx file format are recognized: BIMx Hyper-model, which includes the complete scene information in one single file (.bimx), or BIMx 3D Scene view which has the result of saving a layout in BMMX format.
BIMX Hyper-model File Format
The BIMX Hyper-model File Format, is a compressor version of the original.bimx file that supports both mobile devices? (Android or iOS) and desktop devices. The Hyper-model does not contain any proprietary information (such as annotations or proprietary object properties). It allows interactive 3D navigation while preserving lighting and information layers. A Hyper-model can also contain 2D objects (e.g., drawings). The.bimx hypermodel is usually shared with other users who can take advantage of it being lightweight and able to be opened on both desktop and mobile devices.
Similar File Formats
Similar file formats include: .SKP, .DXF, .OBJ, .FBX, .IFS, and .RVT.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .BIMX) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .BIMX extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .BIMX file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .BIMX extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .BIMX extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .BIMX file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .BIMX file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .BIMX file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .BIMX file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .BIMX file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
