The ATOM file extension is a text file format that is used predominantly to store data for RSS and Atom web feeds. It is usually an XML file that contains an XML version and details about the web feed along with the channel contents. The typical ATOM document consists of two main sections, the head and the body. The head section contains links, title, general information about the source of the feed, and six optional elements.
