AMV (AMV file extension) is a video file format used primarily for storing anime music videos. Developed by Chinese multimedia software publisher JetUN, AMV files are commonly featured on MaChao, a Chinese video sharing website. The format was also used by a now defunct video sharing website called EmOtify.
File Format and Technical Specifications
A typical AMV file can vary greatly in size depending on the resolution and bitrate of the original source material, but is generally between 6 and 11 megabytes (MB) in size. The format uses simple MPEG-4 Part 10 video compression and shares many similarities with the ASF-container format, including support for audio formats like WMV and PCM audio. The encoding rate of an AMV file is usually consistent, meaning the quality of the video does not degrade as much as it would if using a low bit rate for long-form videos like movies or TV shows.
AMV files are usually played in formats like Flash Player or QuickTime. They are also supported by some media players such as WinAMP, KMPlayer, CyberLink PowerDVD, PotPlayer, and SMPlayer. Similar file extensions include .MP4, .MOV, and .AVI.
Applications That Support AMV Files
The AMV file format is supported by a variety of applications on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. Windows Movie Maker, a video editing software included in Windows Essentials Suite, can be used to create AMV videos. There is also open source software such as VirtualDub, AviSynth, and FFmpeg, which allow for audio/video filtration and conversion into various formats, including AMV.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for Android system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .AMV) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .AMV extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .AMV file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .AMV extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .AMV extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .AMV file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .AMV file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .AMV file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .AMV file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .AMV file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
