ACE ( .ace) is a compressed archive file used, in particular, by WinAce. It is the most popular standard for file compression and one of the oldest. ACE files share several features with other compression programs such as WinZip ( .zip) and WinRAR ( .rar). An ACE file is usually structured like a self-expanding executable archive. This means that when the ACE file has been opened for the first time, the pre-compressed data inside will be uncompressed and stored in its own folder.
Compression Process
ACE files have their own compression algorithm which offers better compression ratios than traditional zip archive formats. The ACE format uses Huffman coding techniques, along with differential bytewise comparison, to achieve a level of compression that surpasses most common formats.
